I was asked by Feeding Fingers to create a music video for their upcoming album I Won't Eat The Horror.

A quick turnaround meant I needed to devise a way to produce nearly five minutes of animation in a couple of days, which was quite challenging.

For some reason the track really brought to mind the 1940s American technique of painting and scratching directly on film used by filmmakers like Stan Brakhage, and typography combined with images in the style of David Carson.

I had a lot of underwater footage leftover from a previous project, and started digitally manipulating it to give it that painting on film style. Continuing the generative art theme, I wrote a script in After Effects to create semi-randomised shapes throughout the film that would act as mattes for nature footage I'd shot during the years when I was quite active with my old DSLR.

I made sure nothing was ever in perfect focus or completely still and used 12 frames per second with plenty of grain to complete the effect.

The album I Won't Eat The Horror is out now on Bandcamp and Spotify
